Button Configuration: Listen but Not Whisper?

    My scenario is this:

    I have 2 groups of people that need atypical permissions. I have a group (Trainers) who needs to be able to listen and whisper, which was easy to configure. What I cannot figure out how to set up is permissions for my 2nd group (Trainees). The desire is for them to be able to listen, but not whisper. Googling around, I found that permissions for these two actions were merged. Is there a way to configure a group with the spy permission so that they are able to listen in, but not whisper, or is the spy permission all or nothing?

    As you found out, the spy permission now groups both spy & whisper. So it is all or nothing using standard permissions/features.

    It might be possible to overcome this but quite cumbersome, by setting the whisper permissions to be the same as spy (with no w option), and use the conference plugin and modify it a little so it works for whispering instead of barge. The conference plugin will require the 'conference' permission for users, but you have to dive into the code to set the w option instead of the barge one in the conference plugin source.

    Hi Nicolas,

    I appreciate your response. I had a feeling that it would be all or nothing, and I am fine with that. I have a feeling that it will be much easier to convince users that ignoring the whisper button is the better option. Thanks so much for making this easy on a newby.
